Services for December
The Mysterious Star of Wonder
Rev. Jaye Brooks
December 3
Zoom
During December, when our learning and worship theme is Mystery,
it's appropriate to begin by considering the mystery of the universe and our own existence. On this day, less than a week before the beginning of Hanukkah in the Jewish tradition (December 7-15), and the first Sunday of Advent in the Christian tradition, we pause to contemplate the mysteries of life. Whether it's the light that kept on shining, the birth of a prophet-foretold baby, or the Fibonacci numbers that predict the spiral shape of our galaxy, our universe invites us into beautiful mysteries. Join in the spirit of free inquiry, curiosity, and wonder as Rev. Jaye Brooks shines a little light on the mysteries and miracles of the season.
A Midnight Clear
Rev. Amanda Aikman
December 10
Zoom
This carol, written by a Unitarian during a time of bitter warfare, speaks directly to our hearts. It expresses both the profoundest despair and the faintest, purest, hope.
A potluck luncheon follows the service.
The Interim Minister start-up workshop follows the potluck.
The Mystery that is Jesus
Rev. Jaye Brooks
December 17
Zoom
At Christmas, Christians around the world celebrate a birth that happened more than 2,000 years ago. As we approach December 25, the holy day invites Unitarian Universalists to discern the true meaning of that birth. As people of diverse theologies who worship together as one faith, we respect and celebrate a rainbow of religious traditions. We may rightly ask: What is there in the life of Jesus of Nazareth that invites respect? Who was this Jesus, really? What is there about Jesus to celebrate?
Answering these questions means looking past the assumptions and conventions of the season to discover the real Jesus. This service is designed to welcome all our diverse theologies.

Life, the Universe, and Everything
Jasmine Stock
December 31
Zoom
As we say, so long and thanks for all the fish,
to the year 2023, Seminarian Jasmine Stock will provide some Deep Thought
while exploring the Soul Matters monthly theme of The Gift of Mystery.
According to the theologian (oops!) humorist, Douglas Adams, author of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, the answer is 42, but what was the question? Is part of our purpose to ask questions? And what matters about the questions we ask? As we continue to ask questions on this journey together, remember to always carry your towel and Don't Panic!
