60th Anniversary Celebration of UUFHC

Anniversary Greeting

UUFHC Board President Bob Blackstock with his wife Leslie and (back) Rob and Marlene Lieb, both former Board Presidents, will welcome all to the 60th anniversary service on Sunday, June 12 at 10:30 am.

The public is cordially invited to attend the 10:30 am service on Sunday, June 12 at 2515 Churchville Road, Churchville to join in the celebration of UUFHC's 60th anniversary. It will commemorate the path the Fellowship has taken over these past years and will be followed by a potluck picnic. Former members are especially encouraged to attend to renew old acquaintances.

The purpose for starting the Fellowship, as stated in the original by-laws, was to further individual freedom of belief, discipleship of advancing truth, the democratic process in human relations and brotherhood undivided by nation, race or creed. To that end it has worked in the field of social justice issues such as civil rights, race relations, and LGBTQ rights as well as the Emergency One Shelter, SARC, LASOS, Habitat for Humanity and law enforcement. UUFHC's minister, Rev. Lisa Ward, initiated, with other local civic leaders, a community discussion group which is called, Voices for Racial Change.

The Unitarian and Universalist faith traces its history in the United States to its founding fathers (five presidents) and founding mothers who initiated calls for the abolition of slavery in the early 1800's and it has worked tirelessly for equality for all since then. Unitarians and Universalist members assisted in writing the U. S. Constitution (John Adams, Benjamin Rush, James Madison). Locally, individuals who were instrumental in starting the Fellowship in Harford County were Mary and Art Woodward, Florence and Fran Marzulli, Lois and Charlie Reed, Jr., Jenny and Dirk Reuyl, Eve and Jim Wilding, and Inez and John Buis.

Bob Blackstock, Board president reflects, These are exciting times as we celebrate our 60th anniversary and we anticipate a bright future.
